Gatwick easy-stay

Skiers fed up with dawn flights to the Alps have a godsend at Gatwick – the South Terminal Bloc hotel allows skiers to check in heavy gear the night before flights, relax over dinner and get up early and stroll leisurely to the departures area outside their Bloc then breakfast and board their flights.

Another plus – Bloc gives guests a special pass which allows speedy access to departure gates without fathoming  out LGW’s  heavily-congested route to the gates via a maze of duty-free shops with drinks and perfumes and other over-priced goodies. Bloc costs from £100 a night. www.blochotels.com

Orient Express to slopes

More than 140 years ago, Georges Nagelmackers turned his dream into reality by launching the first luxury Orient Express trains. Today, the legend continues with the unveiling of the future Orient Express train.

Completely re-imagined, the old historic carriages, disappeared, forgotten, and then found again, are back in service for 2025. Good Ski Guide, which travelled from Victoria to St Anton on the great train some 60 years ago is anxiously waiting in the hope that it will stop again in the alps en-route to Istanbul.

BRITS ARE COMING.

Crowds at Snowshow

Crowds at Snowshow

Major exhibitions organiser Racoon Events from Guildford, Surrey, expand again this season by re-starting the London Ski Show – this time staged at Excel in the City on October 21 and 22.

Raccoon are again staging the Northern Snowshow at the NEC, Birmingham, on October 14 and 15.

Now the icing on the cake – they are also staging one of the largest events in US snowsports – the famous Boston Snow Expo on November 3-5.

Slippery slope?

Webmaster James Hill talks tech pic of phone here James

All wintersport fans know all about black ice, the dangerously-smooth and slippery ice we all watch out for.  Black Ice is also the best way to describe the new phone from Oppo - the Reno8 Pro.  Sleek, shiny and smooth.  you will need a rubberised case to protect it from drops as its slippery-as-ice glass back makes it difficult enough to hold normally, and if you have small hands or problems with gripping things or even if you plan on wearing gloves.

So disregard the sleek stylings and buy a protective case to match its original stylishness. I recommend buying straight from oppostore.co.uk/accessories/cases.html at a cost of £499.

This phone cam has a 50mp rear camera and a 32mp front facing camera with a 6.7inch display covered with a Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5 screen.  It can film and photograph with amazing quality and its screen is great to show off your shots afterwards.
One negative sadly - Makers Oppo (Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications Corp) is a Chinese company and brings security implications;  but if you can live with that, then this phone will not dissapoint.
