America’s newest ski area

Huntsman’s Springs is lower-cost rival to Jackson.  Any powder-loving skier thinking of Jackson Hole may want to do a pioneering trip to test out Idaho’s newest area – Huntsman’s Springs just 42 miles away and with the same or even fluffier powder, which is reckoned to be America’s finest.

It is new and fabulously powdery

Huntsman’s is a 1,350-acre resort and nature reserve in the emerging ski town of Driggs in the foothills of the famous Teton Mountains.

The rustic resort philosophy is to get families out into the wild outdoors together and participate. And another plus is Grand Targhee – highly rated by the Good Ski Guide as it averages 500 inches of snow each year – is nearby. These resorts have the most of any in the North American Rockies, with more than 2,000 acres, and 2,000 vertical feet of lift served terrain, and another 1,000 acres reserved for snow cat skiing. It is also fast-becoming a world-class Nordic skiing destination, with dedicated Nordic ski trails and special events.
Grand Targhee’s wide-open runs are perfect for intermediates, but the mellow 2.8 mile Teton Vista Traverse means that even beginners and young children can ride to the 9,862-foot summit to view the mighty Tetons. With its consistently uncrowded slopes, we think it could be the ultimate place to learn powder skiing. Its ski school even offers specialised powder instruction.

And the season runs from late November to late April.
