GSG tells you the best places for a ski love-in.
Good Ski Guide has polled readers asking for a wish-list of features they want - and among the top requests was for a list of the best hotels and chalets ideal for a romantic holiday, break, honeymoon, or just a place where couples can be together.
This followed our delightful first edition visit to a brilliant hideaway on the ski slopes of the famous Ski Circus in Austria’s biggest ski region. So big in fact that you can easily hide away in many of the luxurious chalets or lodges dotted all over the slopes. The lovely Forsthofalm eco hotel and spa in Leogang, on North facing slopes which hold the snows late season, and is linked to the other three resorts in the 270km Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn circuit.
First thing we noticed was lots of happy couples and a distinct absence of children and a really friendly welcoming atmosphere, and it got better..
- Everything was built round natural and recyclable materials, very little metal, with no nails or hinges – everything was wooden and the place 3 even smelled of pine.
- Food and drink was organic and free of additives and tasted amazing and clearly free of the junk that manufacturers seem to dose everything for longer life. The natural honey and home-made bread and jams were sensational.
- Even the spa was a masterpiece – swim pool water a warm 32c, and at the bottom of the slopes so you could relax after a sauna and watch skiers trudging home – or even better - take a dip in the rooftop SPAronama for wide-reaching mountain views.
- Best of all for me was Forsthofalm’s relaxed and intimate atmosphere with happy couples strolling hand-in-hand and loving every minute of their romantic getaway, which costs only £120 a night half-board.
